In the third and final reading on Tuesday, 90.7 percent of State Duma deputies approved a bill to ban Russian soldiers from uploading information that could reveal their affiliation, activities or location.
The bill prohibits the sharing of photos, videos and geolocation information, and prohibits soldiers from sharing information about other members of the military or family members of military members. Disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate this ban.
In 2017 the bill formally proposed that the Ministry of Defense would prohibit Russian soldiers from uploading compromising data.
Before the law can take effect, it must pass through Russia's upper house, the Federation Council, and receive President Vladimir Putin's signature.
